By downloading or using Rock ID ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
The app uses AI to identify rocks, minerals, gemstones and fossils from photos, including notes on hardness, formation, localities, care and an estimated value range. Identifications and estimates are generated automatically and may be wrong. They are provided for information and education only.
Value estimates and real-vs-fake notes are informational and must never be your only basis for a purchase, sale or insurance decision. Gem and mineral prices vary enormously with quality, treatment and provenance, and fakes can pass photo inspection. For anything of consequence, obtain a certified appraisal or laboratory report from a qualified gemologist. Mineral-handling notes are general information; some minerals are toxic — never ingest mineral material or use it in "elixirs".
Premium features (unlimited scanning and the full specimen profile including value estimates) require a subscription billed through your Apple account. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple under their terms. Where required, Apple's standard licensed application terms apply: Apple Standard EULA.
You agree not to abuse the service — including automated scraping, reverse-engineering the app or its API, circumventing usage limits or subscription checks, or using the app for anything unlawful. You are responsible for following collecting laws where you dig: collecting is prohibited in US National Parks and many protected sites, and land-owner permission is required on private land.
The app relies on third-party services to work: AI processing (OpenAI), subscription management (RevenueCat) and payments (Apple). Their availability is outside our control; the app's features may be limited if a provider is unavailable.
The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for losses arising from decisions made based on identifications, value estimates or real-vs-fake notes. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the last 12 months.
We may update the app, these terms, or discontinue the service. Material changes to these terms will be reflected by the effective date above. We may suspend access in cases of abuse (section 4).
